CHRYSALIDE HOLISTIQUE

CHRYSALIDE HOLISTIQUE

Patricia Essong is a singer based out of France with music focusing on themes such as healing, imagination, story telling and sisterhood to name a few. She reached out as she wanted to create a music visual series to go along with a new version of a song she made called Chryalisde. After speaking with her we identified the common themes in the song that I should focus in on. I settled on Blackness, Nature, Natural Beauty and Sisterhood, creating one visual to represent each key theme. I then selected a portion of her song to play in the background while the visuals were in motion telling a story tied to the themes in her song.

This project was made for social media usage as post 16x9 and 9x16 versions.

Part 1: Blackness

Part 1 begins with the theme of Blackness where the visual focuses on a Black female character in a moment of healing and reset. The containers surrounding her include products such as sage and essential oils. In this visual our main character is in a place of self care and calmness as she connects with nature and all of the things that surround her.

Part 2: Nature

Part 2 focuses in on our connection to nature and how we must respect it. Everything in our world is interconnected and we as humans have to learn how to live with it respectfully in a way that doesn’t destroy the beautiful things that are around us.

Part 3: Natural Beauty

Part 3 focuses on the natural beauty of Black women specifically and our natural hair. For years Black women have had to adjust the way they look to fit into what society deemed “acceptable”. This visual is meant to celebrate Black women’s natural beauty and hair. In this visual our character looks in the mirror with confidence on her figure and large afro.

Part 4: Sisterhood

The last part of this series visualizes sisterhood and its importance. It represent the power and strength that lies in female relationships and friendships. Having others who look like you and share the same struggles is important in creating safe community spaces to express truthful emotion.
